Seniors

Round One versus Collegians

In regards to Saturdays games the ones was a disappointing result considering our form in the pre season. We are a MUCH better team than we demonstrated on Saturday. We will need to all be working from the script to ensure that we are 1 and 1 after Saturday. We are capable of doing this … Make no mistake ! Believe and Achieve !

Reserves

Round One versus Collegians

The seconds are to be congratulated on their come from behind win. Get behind Rossco, Hayden and Besty and you will go places this year. It was pleasing to see Charlie Ampt responding to his Senior side omission in such a positive manner.

Thirds

Round One versus St.Bernards

The thirds were defeated against a more experienced Bernards line up.The better players included Rich Mason, Tim Cade and Norman Pangiraminni. Lets aim to break the duck next week boys !

Under 19s

Round One versus Fitzroy Reds

The under 19’s took on Fitzroy Reds in the round 1 clash at Victoria Park in the season’s first round. The Old Trinity boys took time to settle and the Reds controlled most of the play in the first quarter. The backline led by Robertson, Howell and Young were solid and starting to take control early. The midfield core of Humann, Guerra, Soligo and Johnson were finding space and moving the ball forward quickly. Goals to Fogarty, Bowman and Humann saw Trinity in front at the first break.

At Quarter time – Old Trinity 3-2    Fitzroy Reds 2-3

The second quarter was an even quarter with both sides having opportunities to use the footy and do something with it. The backline was very strong with Coutts, Bradley and Beaton working hard to keep the ball out of the opposition scoring zone. Leetham, Johnson and Jessop were controlling the centre square and getting the ball out quickly, allowing Soligo, Ecklersley, Wisenfeld and Morrison to take control in the forward arc. Guerra’s magic banana goal on the run received a loud applause from the larger than usual under 19 crowd.

Robertson and Lane were very active in the back half and well supported by Coutts and Nick (“I love umpires”)Bradley. Bear was enjoying this level of competition while Ahearne enjoyed the role of a wingman on a large ground.

A backline player was yellow carded and a forward red carded prior to the break, leaving the Trinity boys one player short for nearly half a quarter- an area we need to tighten up on now… Bringing to mind a number of famous quotes you will hear from the coach in 2008- “Enthusiasm is no excuse for getting reported”.

At half time Old Trinity 6-6      Fitzroy Reds 4-5

During the break the team was reminded of the theme of today’s game – “The difference between success and failure is energy.’’ Players were reminded of their roles and minor board changes were made. Early, Beaton was running and delivering accurately and Henschell was a spare parts player who filled gaps easily while Wisenfeld showed he could play anywhere. Bowman was running and creating space.

The third term was all Trinity, with players finding their feet in their role and fitting into the tempo of U/19 football. Morrison was strong in the air, Leetham quick and accurate on the ground and Guerra and Soligo solid in contests all around the wide ex Collingwood park. Trinity kicked 5 goals, to the oppositions single in a terrific quarter of football. Goals came from Beggs, Leetham, Beaton, Humann and Eckersley’

At ¾ time Old Trinity 11-11  Fitzroy Reds 5-7

The final term was a great example of team play from the Old Trinity ‘young guns’. They ran in numbers, protected each other and looked for options when running the ball all over the ground. Beggs was very creative in the forward 50.

Moretti came back on and kicked 4 goals for the quarter but was reported. He was well supported by Ahearne, Kappos, Wisenfeld and Jessop. Full of running the OT’s dominated the last term to win comfortably and keep goal umpire Frood very busy. All players now understand the requirements of the competition and dedication and effort required to play under 19 football. It’s now a chance to go on and improve as a playing group and play even better than what was shown in round 1.

Goal Kickers –Moretti 4, Humann 3,  Guerra 2,  Fogarty 2, Leetham 1, Bowman 1, Beaton 1, Beggs 1, Eckersley 1

Best Players – Guerra, Humann, Johnson, Leetham, Howell, Morrison.

Coaches comment – A great team effort. Every player contributed. Minor blemishes such as several 25m. penalities cost the team and we were 1 player down for 12 minutes- we will get better at these areas of our game.

Train hard this week for round 2.

It was  great to see Oskar Hermann, Jeremy Gibbs and Tom Lancashire at the game supporting the team !

Thanks to Doug Frood,  Mike Fogarty, Vic and Doug Humann for helping out today.
