Female President a First for OT Print E-mail

In a first for Old Trinity Grammarian AFC, the 2009 AGM elected its first female president in its 55-plus history. Robyn Waters - VP last year - took over from Dyson Hore-Lacy who presided over the club in both a relegation year (2008) and, proudly, a promotion year (2009)!

In her inaugural address to the club at the AGM, Robyn thanked Dyson for his "contribution to the Club over the last two years " and assured him that his vast experience and network of contacts would still be called upon in the future.

Also retiring were long-time servants of the club Andrew Kennedy and Ian Jervis. Andrew was President of the club from 1997 to 2000, while Ian served as Secretary from 1998 to 2005. Their departure represents a massive loss of experience but, in Robyn's words, "that splendid knowledge will still be available to us as a Committee". Also downsizing her involvment is Marci Katz, who came to the commiittee just last year armed with boundless enthusiasm and good ideas. Again, a less formal role is anticipated for her.

Returned to the Committee were Alan Burrows (again as Secretary), David Troon (continuing as Treasurer, Tom Healy (Vice President). Vicki Vander Venne and Craig Burgess as Committee Members.

New Committee Structure Required

Indeed, given the reduced size of the Committee (6 in total) some dramatic changes will need to be implemented in the running of the club. Firstly, the Club's constitution may need to be amended to allow for the creation of a binding smaller committee. Secondly, a system of ad-hoc sub-committees is envisaged to tackle individual projects and tasks.

To that end the following motion will be put to a re-adjurned AGM on Monday 23rd November at the Cohen Rooms at 7:00pm: "that the committee of the Old Trinity Grammarians Football Club Inc. will consist of a President, Vice President and/or Immediate Past President, Treasurer, Secretary and a minimum of two and not more than five ordinary members".

Glory, Glitz and Glamour Print E-mail

The traditional AFL Grand Final Eve Old Trinity Best and Fairest Dinner Dance at Hawthorn Receptions more than lived up to its reputation last night as the Old Trinity players and faithful celebrated the return to A Grade for season 2010 and the exploites of the players throughout season 2009.

All present really dressed to impress and Tom Oldfield's technique on "How to get a date for the B&F" seemed to have worked for the number of glamorous females (of all ages) present was a highlight.

The introduction of a count from round twelve for the senior B&F added extra interest and heightened the excitement when Jack Healy took home the Weatherson Medal as the worthy winner.  Jack Osborn won the George Dwyer Cup as runner up and Matt Jessop was a breath away in third place.

President Dyson Hore-Lacy congratulated all present on the efforts throughout the season and officially announced that Senior Coach Brett Chandler is to continue in season 2010.

Brett himself couldn't have been happier with the results of 2009, but issued a strong challenge to all that getting back into A Grade is only the first step and we must all remain focussed and work even harder in 2010.

Not quite the finish we would have liked Print E-mail

Old Trinity's branstorming finish to the sesaon came to an abrupt end last Saturday when Old Melburnians proved a little too strong in the final analysis.

The boys played hard tough footie and led well into the third quarter, but even with the breeze in the last quarter couldn't withstand the final OM onslaught.

The final scores were Old Trinity 12-11 83 to Old Melburnians 18 -21 129.  Our forwards Andrew Ramsden and Andy Cultrera were magnificent kicking four goals each.  Both had a terrific finals series kicking some 27 goals between them.

We can all take heart that we have made it back into A Grade for season 2010 after a lapse of only one year.

The club will celebrate this coming Friday at the Best and Fairest Dinner Dance at Hawthorn Receptions.

TWO DOWN, THE ONE TO GO! Print E-mail

According to Greek and Roman mythology, Aeolus was the God of winds and Venus the Goddess of spring. But sure as hell, there was absolutely nothing mythological about these two deities last Saturday when they conspired to produce dreadful meteorological conditions at Sportscover Arena (and elsewhere) for the B Section preliminary final.

But Old Trinity is nothing if not magnaminous and by 4.30 pm or thereabouts, all was forgiven, for one reason or an other!

STOP PRESS!!!! Print E-mail

Brendan Iezzi wins B Grade Best and Fairest medal at the VAFA vote count and presentation night at Etihad Stadium on Monday night. Brendan polled in 8 games and as we all know at Old Trinity had a cracker of a first half of the season as was borne out by polling 16 votes by round 9. Although he only polled 4 votes in the remaining 9 rounds including a best on ground in our great win over Uni Blacks in round 17, he had done enough to hold off Leigh Fletcher of Hampton Rovers and Ben Dowd of St Kevins.

Our heartiest congratulations Brendan the whole OT community is very proud of you.  Well done!

There's more to do than Eat at a Long Lunch Print E-mail

Our recent Long Lunch Club at one of our major sponsors, The Manningham Club was an outstanding success. One hundred five guests thoroughly enjoyed listening to AFL legend John Kennedy senior as he spoke about his early days at Hawthorn and how their lack of success moulded and shaped his myopic determination to lift the Hawks of the bottom of the ladder and to gain respect.

We also had the privilege of John Connelan who is the President of the Old Xavs Association do a 20 minute stand up comedy routine which brought the house down and then John conducted the Irish auction which raised over $4,000. We have been extremely fortunate over the past 2 years that John has offered his services (gratis) and we are extremely grateful.

Another great day and the club raised in excess of $6,000. Many thanks to all the OT supporters who attended.
