Andrew Ramsden will not go gently into that good night. The 36 year old veteran turned on an exhibition as Old Trinity beat Old Melburnians at Elsternwick on Sunday last.
Melburnians appeared to be well in control early in the second term, but the Greens hit back late to make it a contest. Trinity had an exceptional third term and held on as the teams swapped goals in the last. The last quarter went just 27 minutes and the siren went with Trinity four points ahead, the Sherrin rolling through to pad the margin by six more.

Auction Night - Fun AND Funds and a Venue Change
An enthusiastic crowd gathered at the Glenferrie Hotel last Friday to partake in a silent auction. The event was moved from the Manningham Club to better accommodate the numbers and the club was not disappointed, with many fine items to be had the bidding was spirited and the club is pleased with the outcome, particularly as the Glenferrie Hotel is about to pledge support to our club.
We enourage all players and supporters to get on down to the hotel and sample the excellent food and ambience.
Home Game Lunches - A Must! Especially the Last One
The Home Game Lunches are an essential part of the club's community life. More than that, they are an essential part of the financial life of the club. And more than that AGAIN, they are good fun. You always get to meet some new interesting people, or catch up with old acquaintances you may not have seen for ages.
Our special guest for the last home game lunch on Saturday 21st August when we play St Bedes is that well known TV personality Peter Hitchener.
We will also be celebrating Andrew Ramsden's 300th game milstone.
So for all these reasons, and more, book yourself in quickly as places are already filling fast.
A 12.00 Noon start for a 12.30pm sit-down. Cohen Centre, Marles Playing fields, Bulleen Road, Bulleen. Telephone Robyn on 0418 368 307 or Vicki on 0400 424 811 to book your place.
Unders, Thirds Victorious
In other games this week, the Under 19s and the Thirds both registered victories.
The Thirds came home with a wet sail, outscoring the opposing St Bede's/Mentone side 14 goals to three. The arm struggle lasted to the long break at which point both sides had posted five majors. Stuart Cade, with four, and David Oliver and Adrian Amiconi with three each were the major scorers for Old Trinity.
In the Under 19s, Old Trinity (in fifth position and playing away from home) had a close all-day tussle with Old Carey (fourth at the start of the round). Both sides traded blows (metaphorically!) all day and were separated by a mere 2 points at the last break.
The last quarter, again, was a tense struggle, but Old Trinity finally came out on top by 3 points.
Details are sketchy, but it seems that the charges against Andrew Ramsden arising out of the game against St Bede's/Mentone were rejected last Tuesday night on a technicality. The (now dubbed) Friendly Green Giant will be free to terrorise the backmen from Old Melburnians this Saturday.
A thorough preparation by club Secretary Alan Burrows was largely responsible for the charge not getting to the hearing stage. But just in case Michael Konsky, assistant to the coach, had diligently put together from the DVD of the game a rather interesting selection of incidents illustrating the treatment that Rambo got out on the field.
No doubt the VAFA panel was relieved that it did not have to adjudicate on the defence of provocation!
Victory Rant - by a Whisker
Rosco's Rant
Ranting is so much more fun after a victory. Old Trinity claimed it's second victory of the year with a come from behind win against St Bedes. In a game that had it all, Old Trinity finished the stronger to run out four point victors. There were scenes of sheer relief after the siren as our players realised how easily the result could have gone the other way. To win away from the world of football, Football World, was pleasing. Old Trinity seemed to enjoy the cosy surrounds of the suburban ground. Getting the ball moving quickly was the secret ingredient on the small oval.
Is there anywhere on earth that does an autumn morning as well as Melbourne? Probably, but lets not split hairs. Last Saturday was a stunner, the air chilly, crisp and crystal clear. The sun bright but barely warm. A day to warm the heart and chill the nose. Perfect for some sensible relaxation, a read of the paper, maybe a tour of the nurseries (if thats what takes your fancy ).
Why then (in the words of that silly old tune) do we spoil it all by going to the footy, which will invariably stir the pit of your stomach, put you through an emotional wringer, leave you jaded, and angry and thats if you win! But invariably we do, because we love the team, and love perversely - the tension of the unscripted theatre that is all good sport.
There are no easy games in A Grade (sorry, Premier Division), but there are fewer tougher ones than the trek to Brindisi Street to play St Bedes/Mentone. Again, your correspondent took the leisurely train it was that kind of day, and a lift home was assured getting to the ground just as the Ressies were winding up their game.
Some wind-up! With a few minutes to go, Old Trinity was leading just when STBM scored to take back the lead by a single point. From wanting the time to rush by, you were now wishing it would stand still. The OT boys struck again to lead by five; when the siren sounded the ball was sailing through the air towards the STBM goals but just wide, to give the visitors a stirring win (with apologies to Rosco's Rant..).
This week sees Old Trinity take on Old Melburnians at home in the 2009 grand final replay. Much more than retribution is at stake, especially after the Seniors defeat at Mentone. A win will see them hover just out of the four on percentage (well, yes, a LOT of percentage!).
Being a home game, it will, as usual, be preceded by the now-famous Old Trinity Home Game Lunch. The food theme this week is Hot and Hearty soup, lamb shanks, cheese platter, and on this occasion we will acknowledge Bendigo Bank as a valued Sponsor of the Club and will welcome representatives of the Bank to the lunch. Other guests will include Andrew Ristrom, President of the Old Melburnians Football Club, the Headmaster of Trinity Grammar, Rick Tudor (a former deputy head at Melbourne Grammar) and Rohan Brown, Deputy Head at Trinity and of course well known OM and VAFA legend.
Please call Vicki (0400 424 811) to book your place.
Coach Avoids Fine - Team Avoids Drubbing!
Roscos Rant
A beautiful morning greeted Old Trinity as we arrived at Learning World for the clash against top of the table, University Blues. I decided to park near Lygon St to avoid my fourth parking fine of the decade. I am sure I have funded a water fountain or park bench somewhere on campus as a result of my parking infringements. I am a tortured soul when it comes to car parking at Learning World. You don't have to pay for parking at Football World! (Another reason why I love it so much!)
