Please find attached the match report of the Nineteens win against Old Essendon
Old Trinity 16-22 118 defeated Old Essendon 6-5 41
Under 19s tested in the first half but come away with the points.
The under 19s played Old Essendon on home soil after an early week venue change. Kicking with a strong five goal breeze in the first quarter Trinity outplayed the Essendon boys and set up countless scoring opportunities. Fogarty and Morrison got the show on the road with majors while the backline led by Robertson, Young and Coutts stood firm. Lane put his body on the line, displaying great courage and determination and was supported by Howell and Shivo. The midfield group of Humann, Dayno, Soligo and Guerra was giving great drive from the centre and setting the scene for a big day out at the Old Trinity home base.
At Q time Old Trinity 4-6 Old Essendon 0-1
The second quarter saw lots of rotations, lots of ball movement and plenty of action. Old Trinity started well, scoring quickly but Old Essendon, using the strong breeze fought back. Quick goals and lots of forward thrusts saw the Trinity backline under pressure and tested but the back six stood tall, regrouped and went about the business of playing attacking, quality footy. The only dot on the map was over using the ball, with two to three handballs when one kick would have gained more distance. Young showed that determination and grit can win the footy in any situation while Beaton was warming to the task.
When the ball came to the centre square, Bowman, Ahearne and Johnson showed great skill in moving it forward where Morrison won in the air and was well supported by crumbers in Eckersley, Gibbs, Lawrence and Wisenfeld. Old Trinity added 4-2 for the quarter to Old Essendons 5-3.
At half time Old Trinity 8-8 Old Essendon 5-4
In all classic movies the best is yet to come and this was a perfect call for the third term. Old Trinity played attacking, direct footy- as outlined at the ½ time break. With fresh legs and lots of run Old Trinity peppered the goals and had goal umpire Frood waving the flags throughout the quarter. Goals came from Guerra, Jessop, Bowman, Gibbs and Dayno. Lawrence and Fuller were working their way into the game, while the crowd cheered Hale every time he went near the ball. The backline stood solid and kept Old Essendon to a single goal, while the midfield and forwards added 5-7 for the term.
At three quarter time Old Trinity 13-15 Old Essendon 6-4
The last quarter was Old Trinity against the wind and Old Essendon and they won both contests, kicking 3-8 to one solitary point. Excellent use of hand and foot saw the ball come into the forward fifty on numerous occasions. Fogarty went into the ruck. Gibbs and Lawrence were providing bite on the half forward line while Morrison, Eckersley and Humann were busy up forward. Wisenfeld and Widdowson had worked hard all day and Schivo was working himself into the game. The rotations of Bowman, Johnson, Fuller, Ahearne and Young were giving the side fresh legs and this allowed Trinity to run away with the game and post another solid victory.
Goal kickers- Jessop 4, Bowman 2, Guerra 2, Dano 2, Fogarty 2, Morrison 2, Beaton 1, Gibbs 1.
Best Players Jessop, Dayno, Robertson, Soligo, Howell, Bowman
Coachs Comment- A good, solid effort after being tested in the second quarter. Players are seeing the benefit of six rotational players and that in a modern team game of football, rotations are very important. We ticked all the boxes in a great game but next week we look at a new set of boxes!
