The Senior side took on the ladder leading Collegians side in a must win match.
The senior side was bolstered by the inclusions of the two Kennas and Stu Saville. The importance of this game was reinforced by Brett in the team meeting prior to the game. We knew we were capable and had to produce our best four quarter performance for the year to get the points.
We started well by winning around stoppages and applying sustained pressure to the opposition. Collegians who had first use of the breeze to the Freeway end of the ground didn't take full advantage of it. They (Collegians) took a 5 point lead into the first change.
The second quarter was an opportunity to stamp our authority on the game. However the game got uglier with many stoppages and the ball spending a lot of time between the two half forward lines. We only kicked one goal for the quarter but were only 10 points at the long break.
We knew our fitness would hold us in good stead. Having come back from 6 goals down at the Half against OId Xavs a fortnight ago.
We started well again and applied pressure but a couple of lapses of concentration resulted in Collegians having shots on goals which they converted. Collegians kicked 3.1 for the quarter to our 2.5. We knew we were a chance to win the game if we kicked the first goal of the final stanza.
Collegians kicked the first two of the last quarter but we continued to battle hard but fell short by 20 points.
Better players for the T's were.
Tom Healy at Full Back was great on Fergus Watts ably helped by Anthony Kenna and Brent Walsh.
Scott Krakouer was fantastic in the winning the contested ball.
As a team we must all focus all of our thoughts on beating De La this week. Which we can do if we play four quarters of hard contested footy.
