Rosco's Rant No 4 |

The ranting seems to be falling on deaf ears! Saturday's performance against a determined Old Scotch mirrored the performance against Old Brighton the previous week. V-Line would have been ecstatic with the passenger numbers on Saturday at Camberwell.
Too many Old Trinity players waited for their opponent to make the play before they got involved. Most players on Saturday were reactive and even that is putting it mildly. The kick out situation in the second quarter typified the game. Four kick outs in a row cleared the leading players from huddle, were gathered uncontested by Old Scotch players and resulted in marks inside 50 and goals. The first four tackles of the game were soft jumper grabs which resulted in Old Scotch players easily disposing of the ball under very little pressure. Fortunately the senior side showed far greater tackling intensity which is crucial each week, but especially important on small grounds.
The first quarter was a fair effort and set a platform for a second quarter "assault" with the wind. This "assault" resembled a football training drill, with Old Trinity applying token pressure to our opposition. The third term saw Old Trinity compete for 25 minutes and trail by 7 goals at the final break. It was a huge task but with the wind and a positive outlook anything was possible. An early goal bridged the gap slightly and then.....we stopped! Old Scotch controlled the rest of the game (except for some junk goals in the last five minutes).
Jordan Wise was best for Old Trinity. His work rate increased on previous weeks and this must continue to improve. Fergus Stewart made a welcome return from a hamstring injury and worked hard all game. Jake Gibson and Richard Troon again played well in spurts but need a more consistent effort. Riley McDonald made a promising return to 2nd's football playing a variety of roles throughout the game.
Old Trinity venture to Learning World in a clash with top of the pops, Uni Blues. See you all at training! |
