The 2's finished off the season with a convincing win against Old Carey.
I am disappointed, hurt, shocked, mortified and embarrassed by my performance on the pool table on Saturday night. I want to publically apologise for the uncompetitive effort which resulted in Scott Meighan winning ten jugs and almost instantly becoming the most popular person at the football club. It is amazing what free beer does to men. It inspired Scott to greatness. He reached heights he had only previously dreamed. Scott was a man possessed. A pool shark of the highest order. A warrior! He was like a viking. He was ruthless. He dared to dream. His viking like tendencies intimidated me no end. I feared him. He was like a rabid wild dog. He was gnashing his teeth and slobbering all over the table. Scott nearly chewed through the legs of the pool table. Tom Herrod and Johnny Gillies were seen giggling away in the corner of the room. Their lack of support was noted and will haunt them for the rest of their football careers. In my hour of need they were missing in action.
The Number 9 on Trackside didn't even salute throughout the night. It was leading with 200 metres in Race 767 and was shot by a sniper in the grandstand. Number 12 winning two games in succession added insult to injury. I was like a wounded buffalo after a Sioux hunting session on the plains of South Dakota. Actually, I would have preferred a subtle spearing by an American Indian than the humiliation I suffered on Saturday night.
The 2's finished off the season with a convincing win against Old Carey. Andrew Hore-Lacy, Chris Pawsey and Fergus Stewart were good players for the victors. Jay Arrowsmith kicked a lazy five goals to claim the goal kicking award. Andrew Medland and Chris Beaton continued their good form. Ben Chan played a solid game in the backline and was ably assisted by Tim Howell. Tom Oldfield finished the year off in fine style with another commanding game across the half back line. Justin Kenna was very good two weeks ago against Ormond where he gained seventy eight effective touches and kicked twenty seven goals.
I would like to thank all the players for their support and commitment throughout the season. We should be playing finals but didn't take the opportunities when they were presented to us. One more win would have seen us taking on Uni Blacks this week! Learn from this and the 2's will bounce back stronger in 2010 under a new coach.
A huge thank you to Ed Best and Hayden Munroe who have been assistant coaches for the past two years. Their recommendations have always been considered but not always followed. They have helped make coaching the 2's more fun than it already is! I think I am about to cry! Ben Hall has been a great help as runner and his time has been greatly appreciated. Ben claims to run the AFL, so to have such an important man as part of the team makes us a stronger unit.
Craig Burgess has been an amazing team manager and I thank him greatly for his time and effort. I apologise for drinking his beer on Thursday night. It was an accident!
It is finals time! Let's all get behind the senior team in their quest for premiership glory. It's the best time of the year. As I stated on Saturday, football is the best sport. Cricket is ok, but it is boring and you don't analyse it as much each day as you do with football. I dream about football! They are happy dreams full of success, glory, banana kicks and one handed marks. Everything you do in a football dream is perfect. Your skill execution is exquisite. Your poise and balance is unrivalled. I love football! See you on the track!
