The 2's get beaten by a well oiled University Black Team

Always an enjoyable trek to Melbourne University. Some of us could only dream of attending such a prestigious campus so playing football there is the next best thing! Unfortunately a TER score of 72 with a bag full of humanities subjects doesn't create much attention out Parkville way.
The Old Trinity side came prepared for a very competitive Uni Blacks side. And very competitive they were. A seven goal to none first quarter sent a harsh message to our team that the game begins at the first bounce, not at quarter time or half time as has been happening so far in 2008.
The quarter time huddle was tense. A quick march down to the forward pocket to get a closer look at the scoreboard seemed to do wonders for the second quarter. Even though the end result was a four goal to to quarter to the Uni Blacks, there were positive signs that the O.T's were starting the play the type of football that we ALL know they can play. Ben Chan and Brett Smith set the standard ably supported by Tom Oldfield in the ruck.
The half time address centred on the fact that we desperately wanted to get something out of the day. Nine goals down was a fairly ugly situation to be in, so we set ourselves the task of winning the second half.
The intensity on the ball in the third quarter was exceptional. The accountability that we have spoken about all year improved greatly and resulted in a three goal to two quarter that went O.T's way. Tom Herrod on the wing set a terrific example to the team. Robbie Gamble gave us a target up forward and we went in to the three quarter time huddle confident that we could complete our goal of winning the second half.
With injuries mounting we couldn't quite achieve our target but not without a great deal of effort. Uni Blacks have set the standard! They play the most unselfish brand of football I have seen in A Grade 2's. They are prepared to sacrifice their own games for the benefit of the team. They are the benchmark! An eleven goal loss was very disappointing but we get the chance this week to bounce back against St Bedes! I am excited!
