Reserves get win number two on the board Print E-mail

Please find the match report of seconds great win against St.Bedes /  Mentone Tigers.

A beautiful morning greeted the team as they arrived at Football World on Saturday. Most pleasing was the fact that every player arrived at the ground one hour prior to the game. It was an important game for the team. The opportunity to go 2-2 was before us!
The game began at a frantic pace with both sides exerting physical pressure. Old Trinity made the opening quarter a priority before the game so to kick the first goal was pleasing. Jay Arrowsmith was providing a target up forward and was working closely with his new buddy Norman to cause St Bedes defenders problems. Ben Chan was doing his best to cover his opponent with his version of the "human blanket", much to the delight of the coaching staff. Cam Adam and Angus Greene had plenty of the ball in the midfield and by quarter time Old Trinity held a four goal lead.
The second quarter started with the the same intensity as the first. A terrific passage of play from our defensive fifty ended with a brilliant goal from Albert to extend our lead to five goals. The side was playing with great confidence which continued when Jay Arrowsmith took a strong mark on the lead. From 40 metres out directly in front, Jay sprayed the kick! He must have been thinking about a bucket of hot & spicy KFC! From that point in the quarter, St Bedes took control of the quarter. Old Trinity refused to run defensively and as a consequence St Bedes kicked the next three goals to go in at half time one goal down.
The Old Trinity players genuinely felt as though they had let themselves down. An extra commitment was required to get back to playing the football we played in the first quarter.
From the moment the ball bounced to start the third quarter, the extra effort was evident. Opponent responsibility was excellent all over the ground. Sam Van Der Venne and Rowan Hill set the standard from the backline. Albert and Richard Mason were creating havoc across half forward and then "Stormin" Norman arrived on the big stage. He may not have liberated Kuwait but he certainly created freedom in the forward line. His three goals for the quarter included a special dribble from 25 metres, a one handed mark in the goal square and a strong mark on the lead. Old Trinity played almost there best football for the season and went in to three quarter time with a five goal lead.
St Bedes attacked from the beginning of the last and were unlucky not to convert in front of goal. Old Trinity's defense stood up to the test. A late goal to Arrowsmith saw Old Trinity record their second win for the season.
This week Old Trinity clash with Uni Blues which will be a huge test. It will be a great challenge to play the top side at their home ground. I am excited!
