A quick wrap up of the Senior game against Uni Blacks held at the University Oval
With another very week on the track. The boys prepared for battle knowing that we were missing a couple of our more experienced players in Ramsden and Anthony Kenna. With these outs it gives other boys chances to make an impact in the senior side. Making his senior debut this week was Norman Pangiraminni after a couple of great performances in recent games.
The game started with the Black kicking to the scoring end. With some of the Black onballers winning some clearances and applying pressure to our defence with some pinpoint kicking. Pask attempted to snaffle a couple of early goals despite the efforts of Hillas down back. However as the quarter went on MacPherson started to stamp his authority in the Ruck contest and OT surged forward to come into the break under a kick down. Players were reminded of the importance of accountability and running hard.
The second quarter started better for OTs with Cultrera being a thorn in the Uni Blacks team presenting well and ensuring the forward group were functioning as requested. Pacconi coming back into the side this week was doing some great tackling and harassment of the Uni Blacks team. With other players taking Luke's lead continued to pressure and harass which turned into goals. The boys from Bulleen went into the rooms at Half time up by 6 points.
Brett reminded the playing group we had to stick with the game plan and work to continue to execute it correctly. The ball kept zinging between half back and half forward with both of the Healy boys taking some telling marks. In a quarter which resembled an arm wrestle OT turned at the last break up by 5 points.
In the last quarter the importance of the first couple of goals was paramount. OT managed to do this well and with the rebound of Troon, Hooke, Banfield, Aitken and J.Kenna. The lead creped out to 17 points but Uni Blacks had one more final go to grab the points with a well timed effort to grab the points. The defence held strong and eventually pushed forward where Hooke kicked the goal which sealed the game.
The game was a fantastic effort by the 22 players who took the ground. We are currently 2 and 1 and looking forward to taking on St. Bedes at Bulleen next Saturday.
