Old Trinity had a mixed day out at
PrincesPark
as they met University Blues. Both clubs were looking for their first win of
the season, and at the siren it was Uni Blues who were holding the choccos.
In a see-sawing game OTs won the first quarter and matched the uni boys
in the last but were kept goal-less in the second and third quarters.
Coach
Ray Leetham was
positive, appraising the match as a great team effort. We did not get the game
points but we are learning what it takes to get them. The team is progressing
and starting to play strong attacking football. He also bemoaned the sporadic
attendance at traiing for some players: Some players are only training once a
week - think of what we could do if everyone trained twice together!

Round 3 v University Blues (Away)
Under 19s
dont get the points but signs are emerging.
Old Trinity 2-3 2-4 2-7 5-10 40
Uni. Blues 0-4 4-9 6-16 9-21 75
1st Q
The first term was a frantic struggle for the ball from both sides. No
score was registered for over eight minutes then Old Trinity went forward
through attacking ball movement from Piccolo, Potter, Guthrie and Leetham.
Murphy weaved some magic to kick the first major then followed with a second.
Down back relentless pressure was being applied by Old Trinity, forcing them to
make critical errors. Players to stand up included Fogarty, Bradley, Ponsford
and Birrell.
At quarter time Old Trinity led 2-3 to 0-4.
2nd Q
The second quarter saw the Royal Parade scoring end light up through a University
Blues goal attack. They had a 4-5 term, to Old Trinitys 0-1.The backline was
under extreme pressure but playing with confidence. Bonnington and Jack Hunt
got plenty of the ball while Bradley, Potter and Birrell were in the thick of
the action. Oldfield was great in the air while Leetham, Piccolo and Ned Hunt
were very creative in setting up options when going forward. Hughes and May
came on to give the side fresh legs while Sheahan was being hounded by several
Blues back men. Old Trinity was trying hard but turnovers were proving to be
very costly.
At halftime University Blues led 4-9 to 2-4.
3rd Q
The third term saw some very creative play from a number of Old Trinity
players-Sam Leetham weaved some magic and delivered the ball with accuracy: Lou
Piccolo was strong in the air and very physical in all contests: Louis Guthrie
was becoming a real pain for the opposition with his run along the wing and the
Hunt boys Jack and Ned were confusing the opposition with their similar looks
and great skills. Although Old Trinity did not win the quarter they played
solid footy. Down back Hughes, ODwyer, Bradley, Ponsford and Bonnington
defended their territory with confidence. Potter was strong, as usual. Birrell
and Leetham came off with injuries as the quarter went to 25 minutes. Cowley
was filling gaps at both ends of the ground and trying hard.
At ¾ time Old Trinity were behind 2-7 to 6-16
4th Q
The final chapter in this story is an interesting one. Old Trinity have,
in the past two games, run out of legs in the final term. Murphy went on the
ball and Guthrie went back as a sweeper.Kicking to the non scoring end Old
Trinity played attacking, accountable football. Although being outscored by 3
points Old Trinity won the term and was in control for the major part of the
quarter. Chadwick kicked two great goals. Things could have been different as
at least three potential goals were missed due to dropped marks or missed
shots. Soft tackles and not manning up did not help the cause.
It was great to see Harry Tinney back for his first game after injury
while May, Hughes and Pritchard were impacting on the contest. Old Trinity won
the quarter, the first final quarter win in three games . A good sign.
