A carnival
atmosphere prevailed at the Marles Playing Fields in Bulleen as all four sides (as
well as a couple of school sides) played their games at home. And the upbeat
atmosphere lasted till the very end with all teams bar the Clubbies (3rds) winning
their games.
The Under 19s broke
through at last for their first victory of the season, a victory that was richly deserved
and probably overdue so often in the past few weeks they have been in winning
positions coming into the last quarter only to be undone by a reduced bench.
Not this
week: leading by 5 points at the last change, they kicked 3.3 (against the wind!) to 1.1 to run out
convincing winners.
The Seniors and
Reserves were playing Hampton Rovers for the first time,
apparently, in ten-plus years. The 1s were up by 2 points at half time after
what had been a tense struggle with defences on top. However, true to their
form this season when they have only lost one 2nd half all season,
they again outscored their opposition, this time by a comfortable 7 goals to 3.
Andrew Ramsden the only person still playing
from the last time the sides met demonstrated that his influence on the game
has yet to wane by kicking 6 of OTs total of 10 goals.
The Ressies put on a
genuine clinic, and
"went home at ¾ time! Having kicked 19 goals to zip in the first 3 quarters,
they allowed the opposition to kick 2 goals (to nil) in the last to run out winners
by a mere 115 points. They now are ensconced in the Four by a game and 50
percentage points.
