Please find the match report of the 19's tight win against Old Carey
1st Q
In an even first quarter Old Trinity went to the break in front but it was proving to be a close encounter. Both sides played attacking football and the running players stood out. Johnson, Bowman and Soligo were getting plenty of the ball and setting up opportunities for Morrison and Moretti. Fogarty was playing accountable football and after a number of second efforts put through the first major. Moretti followed and Guerra kicked accurately for another. The backline was busy with Howell, Robertson and Lane enjoying the heat in the kitchen. Eckersley was creative as usual and well supported by
Lawrence
and the late inclusion, Hale.
At quarter time Old Trinity 5-4 to Old Carey 2-2
2nd Q
The second term saw Old Carey run and score. In the end they kicked 5-3 to Trinitys 1-5. The inaccuracy from the boys from Bullen was putting great pressure on the whole side. Jessop was, as usual busy as a beaver and was aided by Coutts, Wisenfeld, Schivo and Howell. Quick disposals missed targets and great pressure was being placed on all ball carriers. Beaton showed strength in the physical contests and Young and Henschell did the hard yakka to provide relief in the back half. Hale was an effective link at half forward and Fogarty was great in the air.
At half time Old Trinity 7-9 to Old Carey 7-6
3rd Q
At halftime the side went to the starting eighteen and reminded that OTs best footy has come in the second half in each game. The team was confident they could finish the job against a side that is part of the boys social group. The running Bowman picked up the opposition sprinter and Murphy was assigned Old Careys quick goal sneak- both did their job. Kappos was having a real crack, as was Young. Both were rotating at different ends of the ground.
The third term was equal in everything equal possessions, equal scoring shots and equal on the scoreboard both sides added 4-1. Old Trinity was well served by Robertson, Widdowson and
Lancashire
. Guerra had a foot injury and was replaced.
Beatons run out of defence was giving the OT forwards quick options and they were finishing off quickly.
At 3/4 time Old Trinity 12-12 to Old Carey 12-7
4th Q
Beaton went into the middle to provide strength and he played the role beautifully. Old Trinity were winning the centre clearances and showed signs of taking control. Old Carey came again and for the major part of the quarter the margin was 3 points enter the Moretti / Jessop / Johnson trio who all goaled to give the visiting team space on the manual scoreboard. The game was being won by the running shown by Eckersley, Bowman, Lawrence and Soligo.
In the end the OTs built a 19 point lead that proved to be the winning one and the never give in attitude gave the OT under 19s another 4 points. Assistant coach Vic Soligo would have happy but he was on the beach in
Byron
Bay
, searching for potential recruits!
Goal Kickers Moretti 4, Jessop 3, Guerra 2, Johnson 2, Hale 2, Fogarty 1, Lawrence 1, Beaton 1.
Best Players - Beaton, Morrison, Jessop, Howell, Moretti, Johnson.
Coachs comment- A really solid effort in a close game. The team stood up as a group and found something when it was needed. The 4 x 25 metre penalties given away cost us goals. We need to work on this. Well done and be at training on time this week.
Thanks to our support staff this week- Doug Frood, Mike Fogarty, Oskar Hermann, Corey Ahearne, Mitch Smith. Nick Breheny.
