What a great win! This is the win we have been waiting for all season. Old Trinity Reserves defeated Uni Blacks by two points in a high standard classic at Football World. All players should be commended for their effort throughout the journey. It was up and down, with a bit of extra up and down and followed by some extra up.
I am pleased to report that not one of the twenty two players selected were out until 5am. I knew that each player was going to give their all. If you do think that going out until 5am (+ taxi home = 5.30am-6.00am) on a Friday night before a game is acceptable then don't bother playing football. You just let yourself down, but far more importantly, you let your team mates down. Bragging about your efforts after the game isn't very intelligent either. One of my lecturers at university taught me this equation during a life education class...
Bragging x Night on the Booze + (Game of football the next day) - Lack of respect for team mates = No spot in team Round 1 2010. He was a wise man that lecturer.
Old Trinity were fabulous! Tom Oldfield had a "point to prove" and played a great game at CHB. He was ably assisted by Brett Robertson and Chris Pawsey in defense. The run and drive that all the defenders gave throughout the day was terrific.
Joel Aitken, Tim Chivers and Richard Troon were brilliant in their role as midfielders and half forwards. I couldn't have asked for anymore from them. The pressure that they created around stoppages was sensational. Justin Kenna was unbelievable last week against Ormond and gained plenty of the ball this week. I hope Justin reads this part of the report.
The forwards led by Jay Arrowsmith, Tim Delphine and Rob Humann were fantastic. They led hard, fought hard and competed every contest with aggression. Not everything went their way but I have to credit all the forwards for their efforts throughout the game.
Fergus Stewart is a beauty. What an effort to ruck without a break for the whole game. He was another with a "point to prove". Well done Fergus!
Ben Weissenfeld and Will Bowman deserve credit for their work at the stoppages. Weissenfeld for his in and under approach and Bowman for his linking work. A crucial goal in the third term by Bowman excited the coaching staff.
Christopher Beaton! Wow! What a game. Another of the "point to prove" brigade. Tough, hard and uncompromising. Hayden Munroe still thinks he is a back pocket! Well played Chris.
This week may see an influx in Under 19's players into the team so training is essential. See you at Football World on Tuesday to support the senior side in the quest for senior action.
