“Disappointed” Coach Seeks New Career??

Rosco’s Rant – Round 8

I am very pleased to announce that I can't sew. Otherwise I would be introducing a new form a communication to O.T.G.A.F.C which requires players to sew their feelings onto a doona. This was inspired by a very emotional evening as a film critic. Trust me, given the mood I was in, critic was an appropriate job for me.

I watched the 1997 U.S box office dud How to “Make an American Quilt” on Saturday night to help comfort me following a very disappointing result against Uni Blacks. Winona Ryder led an unknown cast in trying to uncover the secret to love and relationships. Winona was torn between her high school sweet heart and a ripped Southerner who had recently arrived in the little town of Winchestertontownville. Winona confided in the female family members about her dilemma, to help uncover the truth about love. The family consulted a doona/duvet/quilt which told the tale of a family who from the outside seemed to epitomise perfect middle class America. What the doona/duvet/quilt uncovered was generations of heartache, betrayal and anger. This led Winona to finally realise that love was more than six pack stomachs, rippling biceps, toned calf muscles and voices that make wolverines purr. I feel as empty describing this very poor film as I did when the siren sounded on Saturday.

Scoreless Last Term Undoes 3 Good Quarters

In a very high standard game at the picturesque University Oval, Old Trinity again squandered an opportunity to establish itself as a top four side. The reality is that we haven't won a game when the stakes have been high. We haven't beaten a side above us. We have wilted at pressure times in crucial games. This has to stop! To be leading by two goals at three quarter time, having had most of the play in the third term, and lose is very disappointing.

Fergus Stewart played his best game for the season. After starting on the interchange bench his impact was immediate. He marked strongly all over the field and showed exceptional leadership all day. Clearly best on ground from my point of view.

Alex Hooke played well across half back and rebounded the ball strongly all day. Alex bounced back strongly after being demoted from the senior side last week. Jake Walsh was a welcome inclusion to the side. He fitted in very well with our forward line and kicked three classy goals.

Tom Oldfield and Scott Meighan were creative across the half back line. They must continue to focus on practising their skills at training. We can't afford skill errors in the back line. Tim Delphine worked hard all game and was terrific we he went back to the last line of defence. He must continue to work hard on the track as he is being rewarded for his effort. Ask him for a blue lagoon cocktail if you get the chance. Low in alcohol but high in fruity tang.

Cam Stockdale and Ben Weissenfeld played good games, winning plenty of possessions. They will be crucial to our performance next week.

This Saturday we play St Kevin’s at Football World. We must win. If we plan to play finals then they will be a side that we will have to beat at the business end of the season. No more excuses. If you don't train then your spot is in question. If I don't hear from you, then you won't be in the team. See you on the track!
