Last Hit-Out Almost All Good News

Injuries to three U19 players was the only negative news to come out of a successful practice round last Saturday 4th April. All three players (Harry Tinney, Tom Beasley and Andrew Kepitis) are likely to miss up to 4 weeks

On the playing front, while the main grounds at Bulleen continue to improve, all teams still had to play Uni Blacks on the lower, smaller oval as they did against De La Salle.  So the question still remains - how will the teams perform on a larger ground? On the day, however, all three teams performed very well indeed.

Under 19s

Having had just enough players against De La Salle the previous week, the team had eight on the bench and a list that now exceeds 30.  The boys played with far greater cohesion and desperation and in a closely fought game ran out narrow victors.  The game showed was that the team had talent all over the field and should be competitive in premier division this season.

Reserves

Reappointed Coach Rosco had an army at his disposal for this game, but this was a hindrance as he was forced to spend the afternoon playing chess as he moved players on and off to give everyone a go.  It was difficult to get the game plan operating as he had done against De La and the bigger Uni Blacks bodies were formidable.  However Ed Morrison, Will Bowman, Tim Lane and Ben Wissenfeld from last years’ U19s premiership team showed real promise. Onballers Kenna, Petdro and Gillies worked hard and Ben Chan showed why he played several senior games last season.

Seniors

It was a delight to watch the senior team play and even Peter James the senior umpire was heard to comment that “Old Trinity” is certainly playing a different brand of footy from last season”.   The movement of the ball and the accuracy of disposal was a highlight, not to mention the final score. Again youth was on show, with Pacconi, Jessop, Leetham and Humann from last years’ under 19 premiership side all doing well. Recruits Chivers and Gibson were prominent and Kristian Butler is a welcome addition after a year overseas.

With several senior players unavailable last Saturday, the match committee will be spending many hours before Saturday week deciding the make up of the various teams.
