Scotch beat the 2's at Camberwell

The final installment coach of Adam Andrews match reports for 2008.

The Old Trinity 2nd's season has finally drawn to a close with a seven goal loss to an improved Old Scotch on Saturday. Both sides had struggled all year so it was a game that both sides thought they could win. Unfortunately for Old Trinity, it was the classier Old Scotch team that prevailed in the end.Saturday was a classic case of Old Trinity playing inconsistent football. We can't keep picking and choosing when to work hard. We can't keep picking and choosing when we become accountable. The pleasing aspect for me throughout the season has been the vast improvement in discipline. At no stage during the year did I feel that we "lost the plot". Even on Saturday, when the game was in "junk time" all players continued to attack the football. Had we attacked the ball with that ferocity during the second and third term the result may have been different. But the simple fact is that we didn't. There is a lot to work with and I am already looking forward to season 2009.
The first quarter began with Old Scotch getting the jump and dominating the first ten minutes. A Chris Pawsey goal ignited the flame and Old Trinity kicked the next five goals. Arguably the best football we played all year. Scott McPherson was presenting well across half forward and Mick Elliot kicked two important goals late in the term.
The second term began in a similiar fashion to the first. Old Scotch dominated the quarter and had it not been for a smart bit of play late in the quarter by Mick Elliot that resulted in a goal, Old Trinity would have been further behind at half time.
Scott Meighan was doing a terrific job tagging a Old Scotch senior player, so that was highlighted at the break. Rob Gamble was solid in defense and well supported by Will Goldenberg. The premiership quarter ended up going Old Scotch's way. Drew Hildebrandt was played one out at full forward and gave us a bit of life. The "Real No.9" enjoyed his promtion to the 2's after 1234 days in Club XVIII exile.
The last quarter was all about finishing the year on a positive note. That we did! As I mentioned earlier, each player continued to contest strongly until the final siren.
I thoroughly enjoyed the challenge of coaching at Old Trinity this year. It was never going to be an easy season but it makes it all the more worthwhile when you get to work with quality people each work. My 3-15 coaching record won't have AFL coaching scouts throwing themselves at me but if they looked a lot closer they would have seen a lot of improvement within the team. Richard Mason, Johnny Gillies and Scott Meighan became regular members of the team. Will Goldenberg owned his back pocket and was Mr Reliable all year. I could go on mentioning names but I have about two minutes to finish this report before I am set upon by twenty nine over enthusiastic ten year olds.
At the end of the day we are all involved in football because we enjoy it! I certainly enjoyed my first year coaching and can't wait for 2009! cccccssssshhhhhhh Rosco out ccccsssshhhhhhh!
